The 350 Bush Street lot in San Francisco has sat idle for nearly 25 years, but its building is now being transformed into a 19-story high-rise for retail and residential use. This piece of history previously housed the San Francisco Mining Exchange from 1923-28 and the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce from 1938-67. The classical temple style front façade and original brick sidewalls are being preserved, while the interior and rear of the building have been demolished.
The site must be excavated to make room for the building’s foundation and an underground parking garage. The contractor turned to Rock Systems to help them with a solution to export the excavated material via a conveyor system, as the building is land locked.
The excavated material is first screened at 1.” The oversize material, full of brick and demolition debris, is trucked to a recycler’s yard. The material that passes through the screen is fed to a surge hopper, up the conveyor system, and into dump trucks on Pine Street. This material is then transported to historic Candlestick Park to be used as fill.
