Blending Products for an Asphalt Plant - Rock Systems, Inc.

San Francisco Bay Area, California - June 2015

Over 90% of California’s 175,000 miles of road are surfaced with asphalt.  Constant asphalt production is a requirement to create new roads for an ever expanding infrastructure and resurface old roads to reduce vehicle costs for California motorists.  Rock Systems worked with a contractor in the Bay Area on a new asphalt plant, which will help the region meet its asphalt needs.

The contractor developed a sand and gravel deposit to produce construction materials and hot asphalt for paving.  Rock Systems provided an engineered system including equipment to feed different sizes of sand and rock to a new 500 tons per hour asphalt plant.  The material handling system provided by Rock Systems includes:
  •  Eight 30-ton capacity feed hoppers with adjustable rate 30” wide roller belt feeders to provide various predesigned mixes to the asphalt plant.
  •  A 36" wide collecting conveyor mounted under the belt feeders and two transfer conveyors, 36" wide x 58' long and 36" wide x 187' long, to direct the blended mixes to the plant.
  •  An electrical control panel to control the speed for each feeder with a high degree of accuracy.
